An IRISH Picture of the Week!

Last week, in celebration of St. Patrick's day and Mercyhurst's rich Irish heritage (our founders, the Sisters of Mercy are from Ireland!), the Student Alumni Association held an event called "Patty Cakes."

We woke up very early to set up outside of Zurn Hall, which is basically the complete center of our campus. We made GREEN PANCAKES and passed them out for free as students walked passed on their way to class.
We wanted not only to get the Student Alumni Association name out to the campus but also to hopefully recruit some new members.

The event was a great hit and a lot of students really enjoyed stopping by to grab some breakfast. The juice and green pancakes were a great hit and we already have more people interested in joining the club!

Many are Cold but Few are FROZEN!

This weekend was an exciting weekend not only for the Mercyhurst family but also for all of Erie. Mercyhurst hosted this year's "Frozen Four" - the final four tournament of NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey here in Erie at the Tullio Arena.
Mercyhurst's team was unfortunately eliminated in the round prior to the Frozen Four. This was a tough loss for the team and the community and we all wished they could have been in the tournament.
The Athletic Department called on the Ambassador Club to work at the Frozen Four! We had a big meeting earlier in the week and they said to us that although we are upset that our team is not in the tournament, Mercyhurst will still be represented at the Frozen Four, and the Ambassadors would take part in that!
A bunch of us worked the 2 semi-final games on Friday evening and then the championship game earlier today. We were given official name tags that allowed us into the VIP areas!
A lot of Mercyhurst students were at the games because our student government (MSG) purchased tickets for students and then sold them at a reduced price!

Here's a picture of the rink before everyone arrived for the game!
Can you believe that in two months from now that ice won't even be there and our senior graduates will be sitting there at Mercyhurst's 2011 graduation ceremony?!

Speaking of MSG, this upcoming week begins campaigning for MSG elections! My friend and future roommate, Sarah (she is a blogger too, check out her site @ sarahmercyhurst.blogspot.com) is running for Secretary! She created a facebook page to advertise her platform and she will be hanging up signs all over campus! Good luck to Sarah, she surely has my vote!

Have a great week! Let's keep this warm weather coming!

Ambassador Club - I'm the President Now!!

The last words of Catherine McAuley, the foundress of Mercyhurst College were "the sisters are tired: make sure they have a comfortable cup of tea when I am gone." In commemoration of her and the mission of the Sisters of Mercy, the Ambassador Club holds an annual Spring Tea. It is that this event that we induct the incoming class of Ambassadors.

Here's a picture of some of our new Ambassadors. This is before the ceremony takes place, during the ceremony they are awarded with the prestigious GREEN JACKET!

Also at the Spring Tea, we thank and acknowledge our seniors and we sing the Ambassador anthem, the chorus of the song is:
I want to be an Ambassador
I want to shout if out loud
I have a duty to be all I can be
To wear Mercyhurst colors, true and proud!

This year, the seniors wore glasses that said "2011" and wore them during the song's final chorus! They will definitely be missed by us all and I can't believe that a year from now that will be ME!

Another VERY  important thing that takes place at the Spring Tea is the induction of the newly elected officers for next year. I am currently the Secretary, so my job with that is almost finished. About a month ago I ran and won the election for Ambassador Club President! I am beyond excited for this because I am 100% passionate about this club and I love it so much! I was really nervous to run but so excited to find out that my peers believe in me and think I will do a good job!
Shown here is the new executive board, myself, Kaleigh and Rhona
Another really cool thing is that the Vice President and Secretary who were elected are two of my very best friends! We worked together last summer and we will be together again this upcoming summer. We have a lot of work ahead of ourselves but it will be a lot of fun!

If anyone is interested in becoming an Ambassador at Mercyhurst, you should know that it is a long process to get in due to the awarding of a scholarship but one of the very best clubs on campus and such an important part of my life!

Not only do clubs at Mercyhurst serve as resume builders, scholarship opportunities in some cases, and a way to get involved, for me many of the clubs I am involved in brought me to some of my best friends in the whole world! Shown above is a picture of me and my roommates for next year! We are all in the Ambassador Club and I met 4 out of 5 of them through Ambassadors! I cannot stress it enough....but get involved! It will completely MAKE  your college experience!

Back at School..SPRING Term!

Today marks the beginning of spring term!
Back to classes, back to my work study job, back to a regular routine. The best part about this term is right in its name...spring! Pretty soon the sun will set later, the days will get warmer and summer will get closer.  absolutely love Mercyhurst in the spring, the campus is green and beautiful and you just can't help but want to be outside!
This term is going to be a challenging one.
My class schedule is:

Principles of Operations Management: It is 3.5 hours long on a Sunday night. Just so you don't get nervous, this is not a normal class time or time - length! I had my first class tonight and it was actually okay. My teacher brought us cookies and gave us a few breaks. Also, he uses a ton of stories so the material is easier to understand.
International Organizational Behavior: this class is with a teacher that my boyfriend and roommate have both had before and they really enjoyed it, so I am looking forward to it.
Labor/Management Relations: this is one that sounds really interesting to me, I really like working with people and it sounds like it will teach me very important tools.
Communication in Society: a lot of my friends have taken this one already, I am kind of upset that I didn't take it with them, but I hear it is enjoyable!

I am looking forward to the upcoming term, I am going to start out strong and work really hard. Now that it's March, I know that we are in the home stretch snow-wise. Just a few more weeks and we should be seeing some sunshine!

A Very Necessary Break

Hello all!
First of all, let me apologize for my lack of posts lately. Not only did finals have me in a whirlwind, now that I am on break, I caught the FLU! Yes, it is terrible, but I am thankful that if I have to be sick, at least it is happening over break so I don't have to miss school or any other commitments.

So let me back track a little bit.
Finals went well. I only had two and they were each on separate days. I liked this schedule because I was able to study for them each on separate nights. On Wednesday of finals week I had my last day at my internship. I completed my internship by achieving 200 hours! I had so much fun at my internship and I am so happy that the people that I worked with had enough confidence in me to make it more than a coffee-getting type of internship. I learned a ton and it definitely helped me to further know that I want to be working in either a college or a high school, so basically some type of education area.
After finals, we unfortunately have to wait until the following Monday which is when grades are due by the teachers. I certainly understand that they need a few days to get everything together and finish up grading tests but those few days always feel like an eternity. My teachers were so wonderful that they had the grades online a day early. I got all A's! This is when my mom and dad say/sing to me "go Lindsay, go Lindsay go go go Lindsay!" Although my parents are the type to make me feel like I am number 1 no matter what, they are always very happy to see my good grades. They tell me that it makes paying for school much easier knowing that I work very hard!

Once break started, I allowed myself to rest and slow down a bit which was wonderful. My body however had a bigger plan for me to slow down! I am finally beginning to feel a little bit better, the couch and I have been good friends throughout this break. I have been able to catch up on American Idol, the Bachelor and Pretty Little Liars, some of my favorite shows that sometimes get forgotten while school is going on!

Next term technically starts on Monday. However, I have a Sunday night class and that starts this Sunday. I am looking forward to starting classes and meeting my teachers for next term but even big kids gets the first day of school butterflies! To make myself less nervous I like to prepare. Before a new term starts I like to:
1. Prepare my planner for the new term, adding my class schedule into it.
2. Print out my class schedule, know where my classes are and exactly what times they start.
3. Recall my last term's goals. Reflect on what I did well and what areas can be improved upon.
4. Make goals for the term to come.

Now you know all of my new term secrets!
